Minnesota Cuvée

Chardonnay

Alexander Valley 2013 All hail the heartland

Description

Minnesota, it’s the land of 10,000 lakes and the homeland of our esteemed winemaker, David Ready, Jr. Not so coincidentally, it’s also the source of the American white oak barrels we use to age and ferment this wine. The short growing season and frigid Minnesota temperatures give these barrels from Caledonia, in the state’s southeastern corner, a very fine grain. They’re the very same frigid Minnesota temperatures that gave our winemaker the idea to move to California. We’re sure glad he did.

Winemaker's Notes

This has always been a passion project for me. It all started 20 years ago while enjoying a glass of wine with my Dad up at his house. I mentioned that there was a new local cooper that was making wine barrels from Minnesota Oak. He immediately declared that we should acquire some of those barrels and develop a wine that we could call "Minnesota Cuvée". Luckily enough the Minnesota Oak barrels integrated beautifully with our Estate Alexander Valley Chardonnay. The tropical fruit notes of the Chardonnay pair beautifully with the toasty vanilla and coconut notes from the barrel. This is a wine that I love sharing with friends!
